Joel Thomas Cavanagh

My son is amazing! He is amazing, because he has an infectious passion for life which is contagious! Any time spent with Joel makes me inspired to want to learn, grow, and take better care of myself so I can be around as long as I can to share "moments in the sun" which we both have had plenty of already! He is 20 years old and I am about to turn 50, although being around him makes me feel like my life is in another stage of beginning...

(this photo was taken of Joel at work at Larsen's Fish Market on Martha's Vineyard for bon appetit magazine May Issue: Recipes to Transport You 2020)

I feel excited being his Mom and having the privilege of his company now that he is an adult! I am just as excited about my life now as I was when I was pregnant with him at age 29... He has left the nest so to speak, but keeps coming back to spend time with me. He carries with him memories of our summer's spent on Martha's Vineyard that nothing could ever come between or erase. He loves to talk about his childhood with me and I love recounting it because much of it was exquisite.

There is nothing it seems that Joel cannot do. He is attending college at Geneseo to become a doctor. When he comes home, he is an avid ski/snow board instructor at Snow Ridge Ski Resort in Turin, NY. I love sharing life with him and the excitement only builds as he gets older. His passion only ignites my eternal vision of the life I am creating now with Sunsetta and the love of my life, Bill Draper. Joel looks out for his sister and half sister and loves me and has always loved me, unconditionally. He loves his Dad just as much. He loves his step Dad (Bill) and step mother (Terry) always making sure to let all of us know how our lives have inextricably impacted his.

I find myself taking classes and excitedly waiting for the next time we share conversation!

Joel can do whatever he wants with is life. He could never disappoint me because I am so proud of who he is.
