The Free Open Mic Night Coffee House Event at the First Presbyterian Church in Lowville organized and hosted by Heidi VanZandt is what is sparking my interest in being able to perform again with “my husband”, Bill Draper. We had a phenomenal night last night as a family, because we all stepped outside of our comfort zones and dared to make some memories and live out loud together, not only as a couple, but as a community! We both got to see people from the community that we have not seen for some time and others who we just met. It was such an impactful event. Bill and I haven’t played together in public for more than a decade now so it was such a thrill to see him up on stage again! He also enjoyed watching me recite my poems. The pandemic has often sent us in different directions, but last night we were all together. My daughter Sunsetta got to see us perform for the first time, a little taste of what I feel is going to be rekindled here, a little “Beauty in the Chaos”. A project we used to do all over this area and surrounding areas from coffee houses to bars to restaurants and to other good cause events such as suicide awareness and hope vigils. We are back from being stifled from the pandemic! Last night rekindled my hope for more such events and what a better place than in a sanctuary of the church which I feel is my 2nd home. I haven’t had so much fun as I did last night in public since the 200th anniversary of our church.
I was in awe at the various performers who shared their vocals and music. I was moved by them all. Thank you again Heidi VanZandt for organizing and hosting an event that makes us feel alive and that life is worth making memories and living out loud again!
