What keeps my Soul fed are as follows:
Enjoying my own solitude and the gifts of my own company as well as time with others.
When I enjoy my own solitude I create a sacred space inside my home...a sanctuary from the cold world by listening to music, lighting a candle, praying, and listening for God's guidance in my alone time as I write. Because I treat myself well I am able to really enjoy the company of others.
Keeping myself engaged and turned on by life which often comes by watching favorite movies, studying good books, viewing art, being in nature, and the company of other artists and musicians. (This song is from Bill Draper's demo Breath of Life.) I have had the privilege of facilitating writing/artist groups in the community in the span of my career as a Mental Health Peer Specialist with men, women, and various age groups. It is easy to spread your passion when you get to sit in a sacred space with others and listen to their stories too.
Being an inspiration to someone or some cause.
Talking to my Sister and connecting with others who bring me light. Not everyone in my life is a life giver. I have deep conversations with my Sister and she says that especially when you are vulnerable, it is important to ask these questions before you pick up the phone: 1) What are you seeking? Take a pause....2) Is the person you are calling going to able to give that to you? In other words, don't set yourself up for failure. It's trial and error but after awhile you will know what it is you are seeking and who you can go to for that. It has been said that, " Without wearing any mask we are conscious of, we have a special face for each friend. – Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.
Humor makes up a big part of my life. I find that is important to find people that can make you laugh, even if the jokes aren't politically correct. I love to laugh and I laugh often. I believe it heals us more than we know.
What provides you sustenance and helps you get through the days and weeks when life is hard?
What keeps the light burning inside of you?
